Hello! I am back with a cheap and easy DIY spray painted mason jar mug that is sure to turn heads left and right. As you may or may not know, I recently graduated from college.
Obviously, I couldn’t have done it without my family, my teachers, my peers and an amazing group of friends whom attended the same school/program. Basically, I wanted to make something special for them. Something that is sure to make them remember my character.
Here are the materials I used:
I designed my mugs using tape and stickers (heart-shaped, round-shaped for a polka-dot effect and star-shaped). See the picture below for the spray paint I used. Each mug cost $1.25 and the spray paint ranges from $2-10 (or more, depending on the brand and quality).
A few spray paint tips to keep in mind:
1. Do it outside! Place a cardboard box against a fence and underneath the mugs you are painting
2. Shake the bottle at least a minute before spray painting. Test paint on cardboard before painting mugs
3. You need two layers. Spray paint in an up and down motion or left to right motion. Let sit at least 10 minutes before painting a new layer
4. Cover the parts you don’t want spray painted with tape or aluminum (the handle and the mouth area
5. Spray paint your mugs upside down

You need to let these ‘cure’/air dry for 21 days for the paint to be permanent. I laid mine in the sun whenever it was out. You can also bake them the day after at 220 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes to speed up the process.
