Star #2: Learn How Sisterhood Makes Osobe Shine

Osobe Waberi, journalist and spoken word poet.

“The women around me make me shine. Their female energy is what keeps me grounded yet continuously moving forward in life.”

Osobe is a journalist and spoken word poet.

For this #BlackGirlShine submission, she shares the following poem:

Queens

a queen removes her crown to reveal her real one

she wears her curls with pride so thick

you can taste magic with every sway of her head

to love one’s self in a world of misery

is to rule mankind, when “man” was not so kind

to pick up the universe in her hands

and to extract its beauty

is to call upon forces stronger than we are

to be glorious in times of horror

is to be the goddess waiting at the gates of hell

demanding her sisters be released

for all they are guilty of is not loving themselves enough.
