“I was not going to continue to limit myself to the illness that had taken over my life. Because, limiting myself did not allow me to see my full potential.”
For almost nine years, I have been battling the trials and tribulations of endometriosis, a body-wide disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it. This can cause pain, organ dysfunction, and/or infertility.
Following my diagnosis, I managed to remain true to myself and achieve one of my goals: completing school. By the grace of God, I was able to finish high school and college on time, graduate, plus I was also able to build a brand for myself and encourage other women to listen to their bodies while following their dreams. I did not allow my endo to plan out my life for me.
This is how the NaturallyMarshea blog was born.
The basis of NaturallyMarshea is to empower and encourage. At first, the main focus was to raise awareness for endometriosis, but I realized that I had more to offer than that. I was not going to continue to limit myself to the chronic illness that had taken over my life, because this did not allow me to see my full potential.
So, I slightly shifted my content focus to natural hair care. I listened to what the people around me wanted to know about. The interest in my hair is something I actually never expected.
Endometriosis can affect a woman not only mentally, but physically as well. Mentally, I was stuck for a very long time. One day, I had to look myself in the mirror and tell myself to do something. Anything.
I encourage you to do the same. Start somewhere. No matter how big the dream is, speak it into existence and you can achieve it.
I went from crying myself to sleep every night, worrying about what people would think of me for being consumed in my health and what school would be like because of how much pain I endured every single day–to what I can share with the amazing people out there who are like me.
My pain and my cycle are no different, but my mindset and determination for sure are.
So, if you are suffering from a chronic illness or anything that makes you feel limited in your abilities-fight back.
You are much bigger and stronger than anything you’ll go through. Giving in only allows things to control your life.
I’m not saying it will go away, but with the right amount of rest and wellness, you can do anything you’ve ever dreamed of.
Don’t let things consume you so much that you forget to take care of yourself first. 💛
