WHO AM I?

Born to Guinean and Muslim parents in the South Bronx, Aissatou Bah has always felt a little different from the crowd. Her love for the arts began early, praying she could one day become the first hijabi actress. She later moved to Staten Island, where she was able to explore more of her personality and creative passions. In high school, she discovered theater, which became a place to build confidence and express herself, and in college, that love evolved into a passion for production.

Aissatou attended Hunter College in New York, where she majored in TV Production and Documentary, creating her own short films that explored her identity as a Black Muslim woman. She became involved with the Muslim Student Association and projects centered on “Millennials in Religion,” honing her voice as a storyteller focused on community and faith.

After graduating, she worked with ParamountCBS, and MTV Studios as an Associate Producer and later served as a Field Producer on Season 1 of Muslim Matchmaker for Hulu, collaborating with ABC Studios. She continues to center her work on narratives that amplify underrepresented communities and explore the intersections of faith, culture, and womanhood.

Currently Aissatou works with kweliTV, a Black streaming service whose main mission is to provide a home for Black films around the world. She is based in Houston and plans to continue her mission to produce documentaries and curate stories that celebrate identity, resilience, and creativity within the African and Muslim diasporas. She is working on a short documentary about Jannah Sisters a non-profit organization and Muslim sisters group helping young Black Muslim woman foster sisterhood in different cities.
